Fixed VS Full Motion TV Mount

In our industry we naturally end up mounting a lot of TVs. Many times when someone first moves into a home, they have a lot of art and decorations that need to be installed, and with that comes a lot of TV Mounting tasks. With TV mounting comes a lot of issues such as how to hide the cables, how to mount on a stone fireplace, or how high should it be mounted. We want you to know that if you hire us to do the installation for you, we will use our experience in the field to achieve the best results possible.

However, there is one specific topic that I am going to focus on today as it relates to TV mounting and that is what kind of mount to use. We have installed with a variety of mounts, including frame TV mounts and Ceiling mounts, but 95% of the time we’re mounting a traditional flatscreen TV on the wall. Whether it is on drywall, stone, plaster, or wood the fact remains the same; you want a full motion tv mount.

With a full motion TV mount you can easily pull the TV away from the wall in order to plug in cables behind the tv, you can adjust the angle of the tv for the perfect view, and you can adjust the level whether or not the wall bracket is level. Adjusting the level is especially useful when installing on uneven surfaces such as stone. This is because a full motion TV mount has a scissor action attachment on the TV that hooks on the the wall bracket. This allows for you to pull the TV away from the wall about 12”-18” typically.

With a Fixed TV Mount the wall bracket often times has to be perfectly level or else the TV won’t hang level. Most of the time you are very limited with the angle that you can tilt the TV. In addition it is very hard to adjust the cables in behind the TV or even just plug it in. If there are any boxes or a bunch of wires behind the tv then it will generally push the TV away from the wall in an awkward position, and appear very unprofessional.

As far as the price goes, a full motion TV mount really isn’t much more expensive than a fixed mount. There are numerous brands that can be purchased for under $100 on Amazon or at Walmart that will suffice TVs up to 70”-80” large. For the amount of time that you will probably utilize the mount, and for a more professional finish, it is our recommendation that you go ahead and invest in a full motion TV mount. It may not save you money, but it will save you time, headaches, and possibly your marriage!
